Complete renovation of a 70 m² apartment near Fribourg: modernization and opening of spaces

Located near Fribourg, this 70 m² apartment has undergone a complete renovation to modernize the spaces while preserving the charm of the old. The owners wanted to transform a compartmentalized interior into an open, bright, and friendly living area.

This project allowed for a complete rethinking of the layout, particularly with the opening of the kitchen to the living room and the enhancement of existing elements such as the parquet flooring and generous volumes.

Step 1: Analysis of the existing and project definition

Before the start of the work, a thorough study was conducted to understand the constraints of the apartment and the clients' expectations.

The apartment had many assets, including a beautiful ceiling height and an old parquet floor in good condition. The goal was to preserve these elements while modernizing the spaces and improving circulation.

The project focused on a complete renovation with the opening of volumes and the creation of a central living space.

Step 2: Opening up and restructuring spaces

The major transformation involved opening the kitchen to the living room. An existing partition was removed to create direct communication between the rooms.

A custom architectural structure with rounded shapes was created to define the space without completely closing it off. This choice allows for visual delimitation of areas while maintaining a smooth and pleasant flow.

Step 3: Creation of an open kitchen with a counter

The kitchen was completely rethought to integrate into the living area.

Positioned behind an opening with a wooden frame, it now offers a functional and aesthetic space. The dark furniture provides contrast, while the bright backsplash energizes the whole.

A counter was set up on the living room side, creating a friendly bar area that encourages interaction and sharing moments.

Step 4: Layout of the living room and optimization of volumes

The living room was reorganized to create a coherent and fluid living space. The lounge and dining area now coexist in the same room, with optimized circulation.

The furniture and decor add character to the whole, balancing sober tones with more colorful touches. The natural light, enhanced by the light walls, visually enlarges the space.

Step 5: Renovation and enhancement of the parquet

The old parquet was preserved and renovated as part of this project. It is a central element of the apartment's identity.
